Using Images in your Listings

Including images with your listings will increase the interest and excitement in your listed items. To include images with your listings, follow these steps...

NOTE: you may need to get information from your dial-up service provider. You will need to find out how to upload images to your local web account. Please contact your dial-up provider (or ISP) for specific instructions.

Step 1) Aquire your images.

You need to create your images in some manner. This can be done using a scanner or a digital camera. You can also develop regular film onto a CDROM from many film developing stores.

Once you have the images in digital form, you'll need to get it in the right format and the right size. Some type of image editing software is required for this. Most Image Editing software included with your scanner or camera should should be suitable.

Scanning and picture taking create image files that can vary in size. The size of the image is very important because it will mean the difference between the image being very tiny on the screen, or so large that you can only see a small part of the image. Image sizes for the web are measured in dots called pixels. Each dot that make up the image is one pixel. You need to use your image editing software to create an image approximately 200 pixels across by 250 pixels down. This can vary but should be within this range and vary no more than 30 or 40 pixels either way. For reference, a typical computer screen is 640 pixels accross and 400 pixels down.

Images are stored in various FORMATS. The format you need your images stored in is called JPEG and the file will have a .JPG extension on the file name. Save the file in this format in order for the image to be viewable on the World Wide Web.

Step 2) Send your images.

Send your images to your local WEB or FTP account. Most dial-up providers (ISPs) give you a little bit of space so that you may do this. Please consult with your local dial-up provider to accomplish this first step. You will need to know the URL or address for this space. For instance, on AOL your space will by addressed like this:

http://members.aol.com/SCREENNAME/yourfile.jpg

If you use earthlink it will like this:

http://home.earthlink.net/~YOURNAME/yourfile.jpg

Each dial-up provider (ISP) is different, so contact your ISP's tech support for help.

NOTE: Your images must stay on your ISP's webspace for the duration of your auction. Do not remove the images until after your auction.

Step 3) Update your listing

Your images are now on your ISP's webspace, you then have to update your listings on AAANDS to tell each listing where to find your images. Go to the SELLERS tab at the top of the screen and then click on Item Changes. You then select the appropriate listing to edit by clicking on the item description. On the Item Edit screen, find the box that is labeled IMAGE URL and enter your image address. Then update the listing by pressing the UPDATE button. You should now see your new listing with your image included. It's that simple!
