Tips for Buyers/Sellers

Buying and selling at AAANDS can be a very enjoyable experience. These pointers can further help both buyer and seller to trade more efficiently and effectively.

Top 8 Easy Tips for Buyers

1. Check the Seller's Integrity Score
You can actually see the comments made about the seller by clicking on his/her score (next to icon).

2. Know The Item On Which You are Bidding
Make sure this is what you want, once your bid is accepted, there is no turning back! If you have any questions about the item, ask the seller at any time during the auction.

3. Terms or Conditions?
Ask the seller questions about the terms or conditions. Who pays for shipping? What is the guarantee? Can a credit card be used? Is escrow needed? These are some of the relevant questions you may want answered before making a bid.

4. Be courteous - not curt!
Take the time to be polite. Stay away from frivolous questions. The golden rule should be practiced at all times.

5. Take Advantage of Proxy Bidding
This is an excellent tool at all bidders fingertips. You place a bid that is the maximum price you would be willing to pay for an item. Bids are placed for you, as necessary, as other bidders increase the price. You will never bid more than is required because bidding is done for you in the smallest increments and never more than your maximum. See Proxy Bidding Example.

6. Double Check Your Bid
Remember - Bids are generally not retractable, so have fun, but be careful. See Retracting Your Bid.

7. Contact the Seller
Contact the seller within three days of the end of the auction. Make sure you exchange all pertinent details with the seller (including names, telephone numbers and addresses). Be prompt with payment. This is good Business.

8. Protect Yourself Against Fraud
Be smart when paying for your item. If you can't use credit card, send a personal check, money order or bank draft. Never Send Cash!

Top 8 Easy Tips for Sellers

1. Details…Details…Details…
Provide potential bidders every reason to bid on your item. Describe the item completely; specify shipping and insurance terms (who will pay?) and acceptable forms of payment.

2. Provide Pictures
'A picture says a thousand words…' and will give other members even more reason to bid on your item. The more unique your item, the more need there is for a picture. Don't be afraid to try HTML's or URL's to dress up your ad. See HTML's and URL's.

3. Be Courteous - not Curt
Take the time to be courteous by responding to questions in a polite, professional manner. This is good business. Sourly worded e-mails could result in negative remarks, which could affect your integrity score and limit your trading ability!

4. Stand By Your Item
Offer a money back guarantee.

5. Know your Potential Buyers
You can request information about members who have placed a bid on your item. See Request Information about Another Member. The icon with the number next to the bidder's e-mail address lets you know their integrity level. Click on their score to see the types of comments made about them. If they have a zero next to their name, don't automatically assume they are a bad risk. They most likely are new members and should be considered honest and forthright.

6. Communicate with the Winning Bidder
You may contact the buyer immediately even though he/she is responsible to contact you within three business days. Finalize the sale and exchange telephone numbers and addresses. Remember that e-mail communication can be limiting. Telephone your buyer if you have any concerns. Again be patient and practice the Golden Rule.

7. Buyer won't pay up?
For whatever reason, the winning bidder and you cannot finalize the sale of your item; you should do two things. One, provide negative feedback to warn other sellers about the lack of integrity of this person. This will be investigated and the reneging buyer may have all site privileges revoked by AAANDS. Two, contact the next highest bidder and sell your item. This person may still be interested in purchasing your item at their last highest bid. If not, AAANDS will investigate and if your complaint is legitimate, you will be offered a free re-listing.

8. Be Prompt in Shipment of Your Item
Once you receive payment, send the item as soon as possible. If you receive a personal check, deposit it straight away in your account, and send the item as soon as the check clears. We strongly suggest you explore all shipping options including mail tracking, insurance, registered, certified mail ect... Explore all mailing options, including insurance etc. AAANDS has no responsibility in this area - it is up to you!
